Planning Our Front Door Makeover: Inspiration + Design Ideas

We’ve slowly transformed so many parts of this house over the years, but somehow the front door has remained exactly the same since the day we moved in.

And honestly? I think that’s why the house has never fully felt like ours. Partly, because it has been a project on our list from the day we signed the closing papers and MAINLY because the door knocker of the people who sold it to us is still there. I don’t know about you, but having someone else’s last name on the home you own, feels a little strange.

But for me, exterior design choices are harder than interior ones and besides painting the outside as soon as we got our keys, we left the doors as they were functional. At the time we painted we looked into exterior doors but the price tag dropped it’s priority on our list and we then focused on the interior.

Six years later, we are revisiting this project, which is actually a two part undertaking. First….the front doors!!!!

The Before

Even after painting the exterior, the front entry still felt disconnected from the style we were trying to create. We desired a more modern look because the house itself, though built in the 70’s has some really cool architecture that could pass for a newer build. *Fun fact, one of neighbors actually built this house, before moving to a property across the street that sits ON the water! It’s so fun to see how many changes it has seen in its 50 years and this project will certainly serve as a stamp that the Hazleys left.

The Vision

For as long as we’ve been here, this look has been the goal. Beautifully stained wood doors with panels that let ALL the natural light in. Natural light is my thing. It’s an element I’ve searched for in every house we’ve owned. This house has plenty, but now, it will bring a whole other source of light that I cannot wait to experience.

This will give our entire home a modern face light, from the outside, but also from the inside. Our girl is gonna go from looking like she’s in her 40’s to early 20’s and I love that for her.

This transformation will seal the deal on this girl being ours and matching our vibe. Not only are the door being upgraded but the door handle is getting a super sleek makeover and a new outdoor light is going to really bring this home to new life.

Stay tuned for this home improvement project that is going to be sure to wow!

A hint at what’s to come…

You may remember me saying that this project was two parts. Well, the second part will most definitely be the HARDEST most challenging DIY project I have taken on to date!! The new front doors would make an incredible statement on their own but I couldn’t stop there. Our entry way is grand with our really high ceiling and it deserves to bring the drama, so drama it will bring!!

For so long I have been unsure about what to do with this space but after seeing an amazing artist on Instagram by the name of @dynamikluxedesigns, I cannot unsee the potential.

I will give more details to this project after our doors are installed. More blogs to come! EEEkkkkkkk!!!!
